GO 2020 Year of the Upper Room - Prayer Guide
Global Outreach Day is a Global Missions Network that calls the Church worldwide to focus on praying and sharing the Gospel with the un-churched in the month of May each year.
This coming year, May 2020 the vision is to mobilise 100 million people in united prayer.
We are calling this initiative Go2020!
Already, Christians in 250,000 churches across 140 nations are part of this global outreach strategy to pray and witness towards the fulfilment of God's great commission.
GO 2020 - Year of the Upper Room – Preparing Hearts Prayer Guide
We in the IPC are helping to coordinate the international prayer mobilization for the GO 2020 initiative - with the aim of helping the various partnering prayer for mission projects to flow together.
The ‘Preparing Hearts’ prayer guide is a resource to help that process of integrated praying. It runs from 1st January to 9th February 2020. We trust that it will help up to 100 million people to focus their prayers on the harvest in a user-friendly way as we seek to see 1 billion saved for Christ in May 2020.
It is the first of nine 40-day prayer guides through the coming year that will focus on Go 2020 and other prayer initiatives for the unreached of our world.

Editorial: GO 2020 - Invitation to the Worldwide Prayer Movement and Church
‘Calling the whole Body of Christ to prayer and action for a lost world ‘
Christians around the world soon will celebrate once again the awesome light of Christ that has penetrated and continues to shine in the darkness of human history. At the same time, hundreds of millions of people still have yet to see that light and receive the abundant and eternal life it makes possible. They are without hope and without God, living lives of desperation and meaninglessness.
After being arrested by His light and filled with His Spirit, the early church turned the world upside down. Following Jesus’ command, as a first step they stayed in Jerusalem and “joined constantly together in prayer”.
That culture of united prayer brought the empowering of the Holy Spirit and ignited remarkable spiritual breakthroughs as the Gospel began to spread throughout the then known world. This same pattern of prayer preceding evangelism has been a consistent pattern in all the great revivals and mission advances from then on through church history.
Now, tens of thousands of churches with hundreds of mission organizations and prayer movements are joining forces for an epic prayer and mission initiative unlike anything the world has known. It is called Go 2020. The goal is to reach one billion who are still unreached by Christ’s Good News. Together, by May 2020, we aim to mobilize 100 million Christians to pray for those in their communities that do not know the Lord as well as those across the seas that are part of unreached people groups.
No one organization or movement can accomplish such a staggering feat, but if we flow together like tributaries in one unstoppable river, this can be achieved! Getting God’s heart of love for the lost through prayer will lead to our sharing Jesus with them in the power and sensitivity of the Holy Spirit just as the early church experienced.
Would you and your church or ministry organization consider joining with millions of other Christ followers in such an awesome undertaking for His glory and so that everyone may encounter His great light?
Together, as we pray, mobilize, and trust the One who has all power, we can see the following happen by the end of May next year:
One billion people being reached with the Gospel and millions upon millions getting saved all over the world through May 2020.
Unreached people groups hearing the Gospel for the first time and planting new churches among them.
100 million Christians inspired and empowered by the Holy Spirit to pray and share the Gospel with as many as possible in their own communities and to the ends of the earth.
50 million new believers integrated into existing and new churches.
Personal Prayer: Lord here I am, use me! I will pray for and share the Gospel with others who need to hear it. https://www.go2020.world/get-involved
A suggested five-fold strategy to mobilize believers for prayer and outreach is described in this four-minute video.

This brochure can also be used to give others the vision of Go 2020 (some translations are also available).
Further information and helpful resources can be found at www.go2020.world/prayer. Please have a look at these resources and share them with others in your unique network of relationships.
Imagine how God could use you, your friends, and colleagues to ignite a movement for Jesus in your city and beyond!
All through 2020, a series of 40-day prayer guides will help us pray daily for those still unreached and for the harvest to be brought in. Here is the link to that guide which we hope you will share with those in your network or organization.
Please let us know if you are willing to help with this mobilization process.
The fulfillment of Christ’s Great Commission is closer than we realize if we can join our prayers and efforts together to make Him known through Go 2020.

24:14 – Prayer and Mission Unite
24:14 is a community of people catalyzing, nurturing, and supporting church planting movements globally.
The vision of the 24:14 Coalition is to see every unreached people and place engaged with a reproducing Church Planting Movement team by the end of 2025.
Strategic Prayer for Movements
The vast majority of new movements are started by existing movements. Supporting existing movements through prayer (receiving specific prayer requests from existing movements) gives strategic prayer access toward seeing more movements started, and thus, the fulfilment of the 24:14 vision.
God is joining prayer movements directly with mission movements through trusting relationships. As a result, the 24:14 prayer team has launched a unique prayer initiative for mission work today amongst the least reached peoples and places. They are receiving prayer news and requests from church planting movement leaders around the world, and sharing these with the wider Body of Christ.
These valuable insights into the needs and opportunities in movements, and work amongst unreached people groups, give strategic prayer access toward Kingdom advance. Each week the requests focus on a different region of the world. They are sent out via email on Sundays (September only), Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Join us as we pray for movements and movement catalysts to find and fill every gap where there is not yet CPM engagement!

From HOPE's executive director
‘I’ve just returned from an amazing gathering of Christian leaders meeting for 24 hours to pray and consider how we make Jesus known in our country over the next thirty years. The Windermere Leaders' Summit was hosted by HOPE, the Church of England, and the Evangelical Alliance. It was humbling to be led in prayer by Namjin Kim from the Korean churches in the UK (did you know that hundreds of South Korean Christians visit our country, at their own cost and in their holiday time, to intercede for us)? Yemi Adedeji, HOPE’s associate director, and Pete Greig from the 24/7 prayer movement spoke prophetically in the opening Bible sessions. Yemi focused on Jesus’ encounter with the grieving widow from Nain (Luke 7): “Jesus is speaking to his Church: arise!” and Pete spoke from 1 Kings 18 on Elijah: “I hear the sound of a heavy rain!”’
Roundtable of Prayer Network Leaders: Going forward together in the American prayer movement
In a recent phonce call, a number of U.S. prayer network leaders met for an encouraging time of sharing and prayer together. We praised God for what He has done through the growing unity of the U.S. prayer movement the last couple of years, leading up to the “divine turnaround” during the national election. We had an agreed sense that we need to keep going together, coordinating our efforts as much as possible to see God’s greater purpose in national transformation and even a widespread revival fulfilled.
We acknowledged that we are still in a battle mode in this war that we still need to fight together for our nation. “For waging war you need guidance and for victory many advisers” Proverbs 24:6. That is why such an ongoing roundtable of prayer network leaders is so important since no war has been won without a good and agreed on strategy by the generals who are prosecuting it.
A few of the concerns that were shared for prayer:
- As the “swamp is drained” in Washington, D.C., creatures emerge and it is going to get more vicious so we need to mobilize united prayer for the federal government in support.
- Key leaders on the President’s team are in their 30s and do not have enough experience. They have possibly 12-18 months of political capital as foundations, policies, and precedents are being put in place. This requires our special prayer during the first 100 days (40 days left now) and beyond.
- Children and youth need to be mobilized to pray. They are ready and enthusiastic to engage along with the adults in an intergenerational manner, but it is hard to get this going in the USA with the prevailing mindset of separating the generations. Children and youth and their prayers have been used to bring about great revivals and change the history of nations so we need to tap into this amazing resource!
- Keep focused on the upward call of God to love Him and be transformed by Him in the Church. This precedes the outward call to evangelize our fellow Americans. Restoration of the Church will lead to national restoration.
- The USA has escaped like a bird from a trap (Psalm 124:7). Time for us to join forces in a continental and global initiative. We need further understanding about a strategy to confront the enemy.
- We feel a sense of urgency and that timing is a key issue. 2017 is a year to build the spiritual infrastructure of our nation. May 4, the National Day of Prayer, could be a landmark day for the USA with an emphasis on repentance for our national sins and exalting Jesus Christ as Lord.
- Ask the Lord for a new spiritual awakening for the nation, for greater unity in His Body and prayer movement, and for strategies from Heaven. Continue to pray for the President, Vice-President and their administration to be characterized by God’s wisdom and protection. Pray that the prayer army would be stirred to press in.
- Pray for the National Day of Prayer on May 4 and their team that is so busy for His special favor and help from above as they and their coordinators in every state arrange up to 45,000 prayer gatherings that God will use it to propel the prayer movement and a process of national transformation. Also, for the fire of revival to hit every class of people and part of the nation, burning up the darkness and bringing about a deep hunger for God in our society.

Join in with a global wave of prayer
We want to encourage you, as part of the World Prayer Centre family wherever you live in the world, to support The Archbishop of Canterbury’s call for Christians to join a wave of prayer across the UK and around the world. WPC will be providing resources and updates and will be working with church leaders in Birmingham to provide prayer points and prayer events in the city.
It’s not complicated – Thy Kingdom Come are simply asking people to pray in whatever way they want and with whoever they want for others to come to know Jesus Christ.
• Everyone is asked to Pledge2Pray by visiting www.thykingdomcome.global where there are resources to help and inspire. You can sign as an individual, family, church group, church, group of churches or organisation
• As Thy Kingdom Come falls in half term week in England resources are being prepared to help families engage wherever they are on holiday
The aims are:
• For people to pray with God’s world-wide family from 25 May – 4th June - individually, as a family or as part of a church
• For prayer events to be held across churches in the UK and the world. This will culminate in many larger ‘beacon’ events in cathedrals where communities gather to worship and to pray for the empowering of the Holy Spirit for effective witness.
• For people to be transformed through prayer by the Holy Spirit, finding new confidence to be witnesses for Jesus Christ.
Last year in May 2016 the Archbishops of Canterbury and York invited people to join a wave of prayer between Ascension and Pentecost. The response in May 2016 was overwhelming as hundreds of thousands joined in from churches of many denominations and different traditions around the UK and across the world.
For 2017 the vision is even bigger. The hope is to see at least 80 per cent of Church of England churches and cathedrals taking part as well as many other denominations and the churches of the world-wide Anglican Communion. Leaders from the international Methodist church, the Free churches, the Roman Catholic Church, Pentecostal churches and several of the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox churches in the UK have all signalled their support.
“This is not a Church of England thing, it's not an Anglican thing, it's a Christian thing! “ World Prayer Centre see this as a very significant element in a fresh call to pray for our nation and expect a great move of God.
What can you do?
We would love people to champion “Thy Kingdom Come” at a local level. In February 2017, further resources and information will be available on www.thykingdomcome.global including tips and materials to download on prayer and details of prayer events and how to organize your own. Please look at these and ensure local clergy and church leaders are aware. Encourage them to engage.
UsePledge2Pray and you’ll be kept updated on new resources and information and if you’re on Facebook or Twitter reminders will be posted there.
Pray for a great wave of prayer to hit our nation and your local area. This is a really important time to keep praying – “Your Kingdom come, your will be done.”
“Jesus prayed at the Last Supper that we, those who follow Him, might ‘be one that the world might believe’. We are invited to make a lasting difference in our nations and in our world, by responding to his call to find a deep unity of purpose in prayer.” Archbishop Justin Welby
As more information becomes available we will keep all WPC family updated. It is a privilege for us at World Prayer Centre to partner with Thy Kingdom Come and for me to serve on the national steering group.
