Israeli soldier rejected God then found Jesus

Tamir, an Israeli soldier and atheist, found solace in Jesus after a journey of self-discovery and spiritual questioning. Initially rejecting God, his search for meaning led him to explore various philosophies and arts, but he found no satisfaction. His military service, particularly in the despised military police, intensified his quest. Ironically, his duties led him to rediscover God through the Bible. Challenged by a Christian colleague, Tamir delved into the New Testament, reconciling it with the Old Testament, leading to his conversion to Christianity. He surrendered his life to Jesus as his Lord and Saviour and was born again. Today, Tamir teaches scriptures, both Old and New Testament, in Israel. He says, ‘God defeated me in the battle I challenged him to, but he made me the winner.'

Rapper’s 'sabbatical' to study the Bible

US artist Chance the Rapper has revealed he is taking a ‘sabbatical’ to ‘learn the word of God’. He said he made the decision in order to set a good example to his newborn nephew. In an Instagram post liked by over 1.3 million people, the I'm the One hit maker said, ‘I'm on a plane headed out of the country on my first sabbatical. I'm going away to learn the Word of God, which I am admittedly very unfamiliar with. I've been brought up by my family to know Christ, but I haven't taken it upon myself to really just take a couple of days and read my Bible. We all quote scripture and tell each other what God likes and doesn't like, but how much time do we spend as followers of Jesus to really just read and KNOW his Word?’ Earlier this year he won three Grammy awards, and when accepting one of them he said, ‘Glory be to God. I claim this victory in the name of the Lord.’

Christians in parliament May-June

Between 8 May and 12 June those attending parliament’s weekly chapel services will be looking at the gospel of John and the different stories of ‘Encounters with Jesus’. Please pray for the speakers as they prepare. Pray for increasing numbers of parliamentarians and staff to attend regularly, be inspired to invite others and be strengthened in their faith. There are several Bible study groups meeting every week; pray that the members of all these groups will continue to grow in their love for Jesus and be better equipped to live out their faith in Parliament. Pray and thank God for the new Wednesday Bible study group, now firmly established with a committed core group attending regularly. Also please pray for the preparations for the national parliamentary prayer breakfast on 19 June, with the topic ‘What can Christianity offer our society in the 21st century?’

London City Mission: gym and Bible study

Missionary Tim Fielder is spearheading a ministry called Body and Soul Fitness that combines personal training with discipleship of unchurched young men. ‘I often talked to others about God at my gym. So I thought ‘What about a gym session and Bible study together?’ Then a Christian youth club offered us a place to use as much as we want. As well as a group gym session on Wednesdays there are personal sessions between three and five hours long, with 30/40-minute personal training and 20/30 minute Bible study over a protein shake, all completely free. Most of the men are between 16-19, some up to 24. Some are in college or school, some are not in education, employment or training and get recommended through a Future and Hope Employment Project. The one-to-ones seem to be working. There’s something about being in the macho atmosphere of a gym with opportunities for being humbled or affirmed.
