This office received news of ‘Sports Ministry’ that is evangelising young people in closed countries. ‘Let me share news from a Christian ministry we are doing in Moldova through a sports club. We have 32 instructors teaching annually over 1500 students in Moldova, Afghanistan, Pakistan and United Arab Emirates. The first hour of the ‘sports’ training is inductive bible study and during 13 years many accepted Christ and are active in their churches and in the ministry in their own countries. As the founder and president of the sports club I examine all the students when they take their tests. At a recent exam in Moldavia for 30 students and their parents, reported that they seriously studied the Word as well as developing in the sport.’ The BBC reported world football has a generation of players bringing God onto the pitch, such as the Brazilian player Kaka who celebrates victories by revealing a T-shirt saying, ‘I Belong to Jesus’. Fifa would rather religion stayed out of football.

Praise: God for ‘hidden’ ministries in the world, and ask Him to send out more workers into the sports harvest fields. (Mt.9:37)

The hit miniseries The Bible is setting records on cable television for the History Channel, with as many as 13 million viewers tuning in for the blockbuster. But certain aspects of the filming were even more remarkable, as producer Mark Burnett reports highly unusual occurrences behind-the-scenes that he labels miracles. The epic five-part series, which runs through Easter, is the most-watched entertainment programme on cable television, according to ABC’s Good Morning America. The making of the TV behemoth was filled with strange happenings that Producer Mark Burnett can’t quite explain. For example when the actor who portrays Jesus told Nicodemus ‘The Holy Spirit is like the wind,’ a strong rushing wind that felt like the exhaust behind a 747 almost blew the set over and sustained for 20 seconds, Burnett told Entertainment Weekly. ‘Everyone just looked at everyone like, ‘What just happened?’ Burnett said.

Praise: God for the power of the wind of the Holy Spirit that blows where it will. (Jn.3:8)

The mayor of the Mexican city of Monterrey, Margarita Arellanes, symbolically gave the keys to the city to Jesus Christ at ‘Monterrey Ora' (Monterrey Prays), an event organized by an alliance of pastors. Arellanes made a speech in which she welcomed Jesus Christ to Monterrey and asserted that the city had been born in the name of God and should be preserved, loved and defended as such. A video of the speech, along with debate over the secular nature of the state and its institutions, has gone viral. Watch it on ‘More’ link below. ‘I, Margarita Alicia Arellanes, hand over the city of Monterrey, Nuevo León to our lord Jesus Christ, so that his kingdom of peace and blessings may be established. I open the doors to this municipality to God as the maximum authority. I acknowledge that without his presence and his help we cannot have true success,’ the mayor announced. She went on to read Psalms 40 from the Bible.

Praise: God for the testimony of Margarita and pray for her protection from the drug cartels. (Matt.10:7)

They had only prepared food for 70 people. But once the service in the prison in Pochutla had started, 200 men joined in. During Operation Mobilization Mexico's outreach in the state of Oaxaca, a group of volunteers realized they hadn't enough food and prayed for God to multiply it. Their prayer was answered. ‘I could hardly believe it, but it happened. As we were handing the food out to the inmates, it didn't run out. We even had enough plates and spoons for 200 men!’ Source: Jennifer LeClaire, OMI.

Praise: God for He is the God of miracles. (Ps.77:14)

Being deployed can focus the mind on the fragility of life and on eternal matters. A number of members of the Armed Forces have recently given their lives to Christ; some have been baptised and have had the opportunity to give their testimonies in front of their friends.

Praise: for all those deployed that they will be challenged to consider the gospel and give their lives to Christ. Pray for those who have been baptised that they might walk out in faith and witness to those around them and continue to walk in their faith when they return home. (3Jn.1:2-4)

A planning application for a massive ‘mega-mosque’ in West Ham has been recommended for refusal. Newham planning officers will ask local councillors to refuse the application in a meeting to be held on Wednesday 5th December 2012 reports the London Evening Standard. Christian Voice members have been meeting for prayer at the site of the proposed development on the first Saturday morning of every month since January 2007. They will be meeting this morning at 10.30am. Stephen Green, National Director of Christian Voice, said this morning: ‘We must pray councillors agree with their planning officers on Wednesday evening despite what will be massive pressure from Muslims supporting the proposal.’ (See Prayer Alert 37-2912) Latest: Council has refused planning permission.

Praise: God for the recommendation and pray once again that the outcome regarding this mega-mosque will be guided by God’s Spirit. (2Th.2:13-14)

In less than one week, the national petition for marriage has gathered more than 64,000 signatures. That number only includes those who have signed up online. In addition, people across the nation are signing paper petitions and posting them in. The Coalition for Marriage produced half-a-million paper petition forms for distribution throughout the UK. Reacting to news the online petition passed the 64,000 mark, campaign director Colin Hart said: ‘In just our first week, 64,000 people have signed the campaign’s petition. They are from all walks of life, religious and non religious, but they all share one thing, a belief that the Government should not redefine the current definition of marriage, which has been the bedrock of society for thousands of years’.

Praise: God for the response to this petition and pray that numbers will continue to increase. (Ro.8:31)

The Malaysian government has said it will release 35,000 Bibles that have been impounded for months for using the word ‘Allah’ in reference to God. The Bibles were printed in Indonesia for Christians in the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak. Muslim groups protested against the Christian use of the word Allah, saying it is an attempt to make Christianity appeal to Muslims. Malaysia's constitution promises freedom of worship to all faiths, however Malay-language Bibles containing the word Allah have repeatedly been blocked at customs over the years even though they have been using the word Allah in Bibles since 1963, before Malaysia was formed as a federal state. Rising Malay and Muslim consciousness, sparked by Malay nationalist groups seeking political power, has brought the issue to the fore in recent years, but we can praise God that His word will be spoken, read, sung, and prayed in Malaysia regardless of opposition.

Praise: God for this decision and intercede for more demonstrations of His authority wherever the Good News is resisted.

Marking her 16th birthday, Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teen who was shot by members of the Taliban last year and survived, addressed the United Nations on Friday. She told a UN Youth Assembly, ‘They thought that the bullet would silence us, but they failed.’ Malala, a student in Pakistan who had been known for speaking out for children and women's educational rights, was shot in the head by a Taliban member while she was in a vehicle on her way to school. Amazingly, after extensive surgery in the UK, she recovered; this was Malala's first public speech since the attack. The courageous young woman presented UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon with a petition signed by 3 million people, calling for support from the UN for educational rights of children around the world.

Praise: God for the living testimony of this young lady; may she be an example to many. (Ph.3:17)

Church attendance in Greater London grew by 16% between 2005 and 2012, from 620,000 to 720,000, representing 9% of the capital’s population at the latter date, and thereby bucking the downward trend in most national religious indicators. The number of places of worship in London also rose during these seven years, by 17% from 4,100 to 4,800. Growth was especially to be found among black majority and immigrant churches, which together accounted for 27% of all Christian places of worship in London in 2012 and 24% of churchgoers. Black people were farmore likely to attend services than whites (19% against 8%), and in Inner London 48% of worshippers were black. 14% ofall churches use a language other than English and 52% of attendees are in evangelical churches. By contrast, many traditional, smaller places of worship are still contracting. These are among the initial findings from the London Church Census, undertaken by Brierley Consultancy and sponsored by the London City Mission.

Praise: God for the growth of His church and long may it continue. (Ps.145:1-2)
