He is affectionately called Patrick Annan; He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as a child and went on to become a powerful intercessor even as a child. Filled with the baptism of the Holy Spirit, he operated in the gifts of the Holy Spirit especially in Words of Knowledge and Prophecy. I remember him saying that he prayed overnight and the Lord brought his mother back to life from the clutches of death.

He lived a very disciplined life of prayer and bible reading from his teenage days and would spend long hours in personal meditation of the word and prayer. He believed in a lifestyle of prayer, meditation of God's word, and simple, sacrificial living. His second son Jim Elliot died of Malaria in 1994 on the mission field in Jharkhand state, India. Jim was my friend at the university, and played a vital role in my life as a believer.

Mr. Joshua joined Friends Missionary Prayer Band (FMBP) almost from its inception and started serving in various capacities until he was appointed as General Secretary. With his rich experience and expertise, he was able to steer FMPB to new heights and was instrumental in making FMPB one of the most effective and successful indigenous missionary organizations with the highest number of missionaries serving in the remotest parts of India.

While serving in missions for decades, Patrick had a call and personal visitation from the Lord to unite the larger body of Christ for Prayer and Revival, hence the National Prayer Network was born in 2002.

God connected us supernaturally in the year 2002 after my call from the marketplace to ministry.  I served along with him and the journey took both of us to around 300 plus cities and several nations to unite and trigger the passion of united prayer and revival.

Since 2002 Patrick played a vital role in the International Prayer Council and his presence in the global prayer gathering with his soft speech drew many to intercession. I also remember that he used to spend much time praying for America, which led us to mobilize prayer for the USA.  We travelled several times to this nation visiting many states and encouraging the churches in the USA to pray without ceasing for a great awakening.

It is a sad day for the Christians in India and especially for the prayer movement in India. I lost a spiritual dad and a mentor who recognized the call of God and trusted me to serve along with him in the nations.

What I am now is what he has invested in my life - not with teaching, but by practice.

Surely there is a celebration in the Heavens,

R. Onassis Jeevaraj

South Asia: 360 slaves rescued

Praise God for a successful rescue operation of 360 children, women and men freed from a brick kiln. They had been made to work under debt bondage for the last six months and faced extreme violence when they asked to leave during the COVID-19 pandemic. IJM and its partner supported local officials in the operation to get them finally to safety. This is the third time in five years that authorities have rescued people from this same brick kiln, but in the past the owner has always been released on bail.

South Asia: Rescued from bonded-labour slaver

The International Justice Mission writes, ‘Praise God for 115 people rescued from bonded-labour slavery just this week! These children, women and men were rescued by IJM, our partners and local authorities from six brick kilns, a rice mill and several roadside cafes. All had been forced to work in gruelling conditions for the last 2 to 10 years. Instead of going to school, many of the children had grown up making bricks alongside their parents. We are so grateful for local officials who quickly took up cases from IJM and our partners, and how they treated the victims with dignity and respect. Please pray for follow-up in all these cases and for these families to resettle safely as they begin new lives in freedom.’

Slaves released

An email to this office reads, ‘Praise God for 32 survivors rescued from slavery at a brick kiln this week, and please pray for ongoing obstacles in their case. These families were toiling in a brick kiln until International Justice Mission and a partner NGO arrived to rescue them on Wednesday. The families have been brought to safety, but their former owner is exerting his power in the community to influence local government officials, who are now delaying giving the rescued families crucial documents to mark their freedom and protect them long-term. We need God’s intervention to change the hearts of these officials so they do the right thing, seek justice and protect these children, women and men in their first critical days in freedom.’

Bhutan: 780,000 have never heard of Jesus

There are 77 different people groups in Bhutan; most of them speak the official language, Dzongkha, but each group has its own mother tongue. Buddhism is Bhutan’s religion, and 72 of the 77 people groups have never heard of Jesus Christ. Even though Christianity is outlawed in Bhutan, Christian Aid assists brave missionaries who seek to serve the Lord there. Just beyond the border, in Nepal, an indigenous ministry offers training for native gospel workers and leaders. The sessions are held in tents on rented land. Pray for a God-sized shield of protection to cover this brave group of ministers who are giving their lives more fully to the harvest in Bhutan. May they grow in wisdom and understanding and come to know God more deeply. See also:

Two rescues from trafficking

Recently, after an anonymous tip-off, anti-trafficking authorities in the Dominican Republic, working in cooperation with International Justice Mission (IJM), found two young girls and their mother - who was exploiting them - in a crime-ridden and impoverished neighbourhood in Santo Domingo. The mother was arrested, and IJM social workers are working to ensure that the girls will recover from the trauma they endured. In another story, in South Asia, IJM and police had been investigating a sex trafficking network for over a year. On 25 June the team successfully rescued two young girls from a private brothel and arrested four suspects. Please pray for follow-up on the legal case, and pray for comfort and healing for these girls as they settle into a loving aftercare programme.

Global: human trafficking

The International Justice Mission operates in many places around the world, seeking to assist in the conviction of traffickers of adults and children. They currently seek prayer support for teams in Kenya, Uganda, Philippines, Guatemala, Thailand, and Cambodia. Their urgent request today is for a team in South Asia who are seeking to help anti-trafficking police rescue 20+ men from slavery. A recent success story is the conviction of eight men in India, after a three-year trial, for torturing and chopping off the right hands of two innocent men whom they tried to enslave. All eight were sentenced to life imprisonment, the longest sentences ever in an Indian bonded-labour case.
